On a short journey through the woods, a century-old tree in a London suburb spoke to me of the history and pace of the forest. I couldn't help but wonder: how does it internalise the particles of this long stretch of time if it just quietly witnesses everything around it? I suspect that it is here in the flowing water and wind that it may be healed.

When the beech tree gazes upon the water's surface
Ta hears the hushed whispers of the pond that slipped away
Discussing how Ta's ailments originated
Also teaching Ta how to perceive Ta's own energy pulsing among the branches and leaves
Ta needs to cast forward three seeds
Then take a step back
Through the curtain of the wind
Forget the blood and fire that Ta witnessed
Spit out two light shadows
Ta will be cured
A voice comes from upstream
On Ta's path to find awareness and bones
*Ta refers to a third person address without gender in Chinese.
